Global search is the fastest way to find anything in CloudRent Pro. Instead of navigating through menus, press a keyboard shortcut and start typing to instantly locate customers, rentals, equipment, invoices, or staff members.

    • The search modal appears in the center of your screen

    • Start typing to search across all categories

You can also click the search icon in the top navigation bar if you prefer using your mouse.

Using Search Results

Navigating Results

    • Results appear as you type — No need to press Enter first

    • Use arrow keys (↑ ↓) to move through results

    • Press Enter to open the selected result

    • Press Escape to close search without selecting

Result Categories

Results are grouped by type (Customers, Rentals, Equipment, etc.) so you can quickly identify what you're looking for. Each result shows:

    • Icon — Indicates the record type

    • Primary text — Name or number

    • Secondary text — Additional context (status, company, etc.)

💡

Tip: The most relevant results appear first. If you're looking for a specific type, add a keyword like "rental" or "invoice" to your search.

Search Tips

🎯 Be Specific

Searching "John" returns all Johns. Searching "John Smith" or "John 0412" narrows results quickly.

📝 Partial Matches Work

You don't need the full name. "Exc" finds "Excavator", "042" finds phone numbers containing 042.

💰 Use Reference Numbers

Know the rental number or invoice number? Search it directly for instant access.

📂 Recent Items Appear First

Items you've recently viewed are prioritised in search results.

Keyboard-Only Workflow

For maximum efficiency, you can complete many tasks without touching your mouse:

    • Cmd/Ctrl + K — Open search

    • Type your query

    • ↓ (down arrow) — Move to first result

    • Enter — Open the result

    • Tab — Navigate through the page

ℹ️

Note: Global search is available to all staff roles, but results are filtered based on permissions. Drivers only see their assigned jobs and basic equipment lookups.

Troubleshooting

Not Finding What You're Looking For?

    • Check spelling — Try alternative spellings or partial matches

    • Search by different fields — Try phone number instead of name

    • Clear and retry — Sometimes starting fresh helps

    • Check filters — Make sure you haven't filtered out the record type

Search Feels Slow?

Search results appear as you type with a small delay to prevent excessive queries. This is normal behaviour and keeps the system responsive.
