Tiered Pricing
Tiered pricing automatically applies better rates for longer rental periods. Instead of manually calculating discounts for extended hires, CloudRent Pro handles it automatically based on rules you define.
How Tiered Pricing Works
You define price breaks based on rental duration. When a customer books for longer, they automatically get the lower rate for qualifying days.
Example Tier Structure
Days 1-3: $150/day
Days 4-7: $130/day
Days 8-14: $110/day
Days 15+: $90/day
For a 10-day rental:
Days 1-3 = 3 × $150 = $450
Days 4-7 = 4 × $130 = $520
Days 8-10 = 3 × $110 = $330
Total = $1,300
Setting Up Tiered Pricing
Open the equipment item
Click Edit
Scroll to Pricing
Enable "Tiered Pricing"
Add pricing tiers
Save the equipment
Adding a Tier
Click "Add Tier"
Enter the starting day for this tier
Enter the rate for days in this tier
Repeat for additional tiers
💡
Tip: Start your first tier at Day 1. Each subsequent tier's "from day" automatically becomes the previous tier's end point.

Calculation Methods
CloudRent Pro offers two ways to calculate tiered pricing:
Graduated (Default)
Each day is charged at the rate for its tier. Longer rentals benefit from lower rates on later days while still paying full price for early days.
Flat Rate
Once a rental qualifies for a tier, the entire rental uses that tier's rate. This is simpler but can create "cliff" effects where adding one more day dramatically changes the price.
ℹ️
Note: Graduated pricing is recommended for most hire businesses as it's more intuitive for customers and avoids pricing surprises.
How Tiers Appear on Quotes
When tiered pricing is applied, quotes and invoices can show:
Simple view — Total price only
Detailed view — Breakdown by tier (optional)
Configure this in Settings → Invoicing → "Show tier breakdown".
Tiered Pricing vs Weekly/Monthly Rates
You can use tiered pricing alongside or instead of weekly/monthly rates:
Approach |
Best For |
|---|---|
Tiered only |
Precise control over every day's pricing |
Weekly/Monthly only |
Simple pricing, standard rental periods |
Combined |
Weekly/monthly for long hires, tiers for short |
When both are set, CloudRent Pro calculates both ways and applies whichever gives the customer the best price.
Applying Tiers to Categories
Instead of setting tiers on each item, you can apply tier templates at the category level:
Go to Settings → Categories
Select a category
Configure default pricing tiers

New equipment in this category inherits these tiers. Existing equipment isn't changed.
Tips for Tiered Pricing
💰 Reward Longer Hires
Use tiers to incentivise extended rentals. Customers who hire longer are usually easier to serve (fewer transactions).
🎯 Keep It Simple
3-4 tiers is usually enough. Too many tiers confuse customers and complicate quoting.
📝 Consider Your Costs
Your costs don't scale linearly with duration. A 30-day hire doesn't cost 30× more to service than a 1-day hire.
📂 Communicate Value
When customers see tiered pricing, they often extend their rental to reach the next tier. This increases revenue and utilisation.
⚠️
Warning: Changing tiers on equipment doesn't affect existing rentals. Only new bookings use updated tier rates.
